Jewelry

A few shots from my recent work.
_________________

Jewelry series for a local jeweler. The goal was to show all the artistry of the handcrafted pieces. Such results were normally achieved with large cameras such as a Sinar and with shifting and tilting of the the lens and the picture plane. I used a full frame DSLR instead, with focus stacking technique. Some of the pictures were made with over 20 pictures and combined to a single shot with almost endless DOF. Most of the gems in the masterpieces are Sapphires from Tanzania and they not perfect in the terms of cleanness and show some flaws, such as small cracks or inclusions. This is not an issue. It is a sign, that this gems were not treated with high temperatures, as it is common for crystal clear Sapphires. They represent a more archaic and rare style of jewelry.

My «Jewelry» pictures were shot with NIKON D3 and NIKON D800 DSLRs and  a NIKKOR AF-S VR 105mm Micro lens, under studio conditions. All compositings and the fine tuning has been made in Adobe Photoshop CS6 and Apple Aperture 3. The focus-stacking has been done with Helicon Remote and Helicon Focus software.

Enjoy, Alfredo Briccola

Product Photography for Packaging Design

A few shots from my recent work.
_________________

Packaging design photography is a special task. The products should be presented in the best manner and in this special case, they should show additionally some «Food-Appeal». In the beginning of my work for this client, I achieved the results in one single shot. It took a lot of arrangement work, lightening, cleaning and rearranging of all items in a very limited time. The critical point is, to finish the shoot, before some of the veggies begin to wrinkle or get limp under the studio light. They should look fresh and healthy. This showed up as a very tough job and I didn't like the stress it produced.

With the progress of the assignment I shifted my workflow towards postproduction composing of different shots. That means, I now shoot various veggies as single shots and combine them at the end with the product shots as well. In that way, each item gets the same attention and will look perfect in the combination. I got much more control over the composing and results are far better now.

My «Products for Packaging Desing» pictures were shot with NIKON D3 and NIKON D800 DSLRs with NIKKOR AF-S 85mm, f 1:1,4 D and NIKKOR AF-S VR 105mm Micro lenses, under studio conditions. All compositings and the fine tuning has been made in Adobe Photoshop CS6 and Apple Aperture 3. Pictures 1 -9 are made in a single shot, pictures 10-14 are composings.

Enjoy, Alfredo Briccola

Product Shooting «Zena Veggie Peelers»

A few shots from my recent work.
_________________

Since approximately 4 years I shoot all the product and food pictures for ZENA, the famous Swiss manufacturer of the original veggie-peeler «REX». Most of the products are made from aluminum or steel and therefore very glossy and a bit tricky to shoot. Some products are made from ABS (plastic) combined with metal parts and have opaque or translucent surfaces. It is important, to achieve a consistent look of all products throughout the years of work. These shots are used for packaging design, product catalogues, websites and advertising.

ZENA AG, the Swiss inventor and manufacturer of the legendary REX peeler,  (see the website http://www.zena-swiss.com) designed by the Swiss communication agency Die neue Agentur and the Swiss web agency agitator you'll find more pictures from the shootings.

All the pictures in this post and on the ZENA website, apart those with a different source tag are © 2010 - 2014 by 100 ISO Photography, Alfredo Briccola.

Home Cooking Vol. VI

A few shots from my actual work.

A sizzling, tender and hefty US Rib-Eye-Steak directly from the hot grill is a dream for real meat lovers. Seasoned with just a bit of sugar, salt and pepper. Absolutely delicious! And as a tip: I seldom take steak sauce to enjoy the steaks. Sometimes a little Sour Cream with herbs will do the best and adds a smoothy taste to the meat.

My «Home Cooking» pictures were shot with my NIKON D3 DSLR and a NIKKOR AF-S 85mm, f
1:1,4 D lens, freehand and with available light only. All the fine tuning of the pictures has been made in Adobe Photoshop CS6 and Apple Aperture 3.

Enjoy, Alfredo Briccola
